My healing journey has reshaped how I see my role in the world. Since becoming a mom, and really since the first Trump administration, I’ve felt a growing responsibility to speak up for the future we’re building for our children and for generations to come. As a privileged white woman in the United States, I believe part of my work is using my voice and encouraging others to use theirs.
Below are two letters you’re welcome to use or adapt to write your own representatives.
These rights matter. Participation matters. Speaking up matters.
Thank you for caring, for listening, and for being willing to stand up for one another.
Please go to https://www.congress.gov/members… and filter by your state, and they will be listed and contact links provided. (You can even look into their history and voting record!)
I’d suggest you write your Senators first, since the SAVE Act already passed the House, and it’s the most imminent issue that we need to block in the Senate.
Topic: “Social issues” (though there might be a better one to select, please comment to let me know)
Subject: “Defend Constitutional Rights: Action Requested on Social Issues and Current Legislation”
Dear Senator/Representative,
We are writing as constituents who are outraged by the ongoing failures of federal leadership to uphold the Constitution, protect civil liberties, and serve the public interest. The current trajectory of policy and governance is unacceptable, and we expect decisive action from those elected to represent us.
Families across this country continue to struggle under the weight of high costs for housing, food, and healthcare, while policy choices continue to favor corporations and the ultra-wealthy. The reduction of the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 21 percent shifted the burden away from those most able to contribute, even as working families face rising insurance premiums and stagnant wages.
We demand that you:
* Support legislation to restore a fair corporate tax structure and close loopholes that allow large corporations and billionaires to avoid paying their fair share.
* Expand policies that lower healthcare and prescription drug costs, including strengthening Medicare’s ability to negotiate prices.
* Oppose any further tax cuts and tariffs on imported goods that disproportionately benefit the wealthiest Americans.
We are equally alarmed by efforts that threaten the integrity of our democracy. Voter fraud remains exceedingly rare (brookings.edu articles how-widespread-is-election-fraud-in-the-united-states-not-very), yet proposals like the SAVE Act risk disenfranchising eligible voters and undermining confidence in our electoral system.
We demand that you:
* Oppose the SAVE Act and any legislation that restricts lawful access to the ballot.
* Support the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and the Freedom to Vote Act to ensure equal access to voting and protect against suppression.
Regarding immigration enforcement, the expansion of detention capacity without robust oversight raises serious moral and legal concerns. Reports of inadequate conditions and lack of accountability cannot be ignored.
We demand that you:
* Oppose funding increases for detention expansion unless strict, enforceable oversight and transparency measures are implemented.
* Support independent inspections, due process protections, and humane alternatives to detention.
* Pursue oversight hearings to investigate conditions and ensure accountability for misconduct.
We are deeply concerned by policy agendas that seek to roll back women’s rights and civil liberties under the guise of “family values.” Our government must protect bodily autonomy and equal protection under the law, not erode them.
We demand that you:
* Support federal protections for reproductive healthcare and oppose measures that undermine women’s rights.
* Defend civil rights protections for all Americans regardless of gender, color, religion, or background.
Finally, there must be real accountability for abuses of power and for crimes against the most vulnerable. Allegations connected to the Epstein case represent a profound failure of institutions to protect children and hold powerful individuals accountable.
We demand that you:
* Support full, transparent investigations and, where evidence warrants, criminal trials for any individuals implicated in exploitation or trafficking, without special treatment or claims of presidential immunity.
* Ensure that victims are protected and that justice is pursued impartially and rigorously.
* Strengthen laws and oversight to prevent future abuses and protect children from exploitation.
We owe it to our children and to future generations to ensure that no one is above the law.
More broadly, we expect you to exercise rigorous oversight of the executive branch, defend democratic norms, and support lawful accountability measures when evidence shows wrongdoing. The American people deserve leadership that respects the rule of law and rejects authoritarian tendencies.
You were elected to serve your constituents, not partisan interests or powerful donors. We expect a written response detailing the specific actions you will take.
Sincerely,

Also, if Congress members in your state voted Yea for the SAVE Act (which you can see a list here: https://www.congress.gov/votes/house/119-1/102 ) please write them scathing letters as well. Here is an example of the ones I’ve sent:
Dear Representative,
We are writing as deeply concerned constituents to express our profound outrage at your vote in favor of the SAVE Act and at the broader direction of policies that are eroding the rights, dignity, and economic stability of the people you were elected to represent.
Let us be clear: voter fraud in the United States is extraordinarily rare. Multiple studies and audits have found incident rates measured in fractions of a percent, often cited at well below 0.001%. Yet instead of protecting access to the ballot, the SAVE Act threatens to disenfranchise eligible voters by imposing burdensome documentation requirements that will disproportionately impact women, seniors, low-income Americans, and naturalized citizens. A representative democracy cannot function when elected officials support measures that make it harder for their own constituents to vote.
At the same time, families across this country are struggling under persistent cost pressures. While corporate profits have remained strong and tax policy has favored the wealthiest households, many of us are living paycheck to paycheck and facing rising healthcare premiums. We expect you to support policies that prioritize working families, not continued tax advantages that exacerbate inequality.
We are also deeply disturbed by ongoing reports regarding ICE detention practices, including a lack of transparency, due process concerns, and documented instances of mistreatment. Expanding detention infrastructure without clear accountability raises serious moral and constitutional questions. If individuals are to be deported, there must be humane, lawful, and transparent processes with robust oversight.
Further, any policy agenda or legislative effort that undermines women’s autonomy or civil rights under the guise of “family values” is unacceptable. We cannot move backward on fundamental freedoms, nor can we tolerate rhetoric or proposals that threaten equal protection under the law.
We are demanding the following actions:
* Publicly commit to protecting voting access and oppose any implementation or expansion of the SAVE Act that suppresses lawful voters.
* Support legislation that strengthens the Voting Rights Act and ensures automatic or expanded voter registration.
* Advocate for rigorous congressional oversight of ICE, including independent inspections, public reporting requirements, and enforceable standards for detainee treatment.
* Oppose funding increases for detention expansion absent clear accountability and due process safeguards.
* Support policies that lower healthcare costs for families and ensure corporations and the ultra-wealthy pay a fair share in taxes.
* Defend constitutional protections for women and marginalized communities in all pending legislation.
* Support independent investigations and, where evidence warrants, prosecutions of any individuals credibly implicated in crimes against children referenced in materials related to Jeffrey Epstein, without special treatment or immunity for anyone. Our government has a duty to protect children and ensure equal justice under the law.
* Uphold your oath by supporting lawful mechanisms of accountability, including investigations into executive misconduct where appropriate.
Your constituents are watching closely. We expect courage, integrity, and a willingness to put the Constitution and the public interest above partisan loyalty. The path we are on is unsustainable, and history will remember who stood up for democratic principles and who did not.
We urge you to take these concerns seriously and to respond with specific steps you will take to address them.
Sincerely,
